Conservatives in the Tamil literary establishment were shocked when women writers began to discover the female body as a site of inscribed violence and tried to subvert its commodified exhibition by rewriting it as a space for resistance, freedom, desire and joy. They demanded a ban on their works, openly threatened them and ran smear campaigns against them. The writers fought all this bravely and stood firm. This session celebrates their work and looks at the possibilities it has opened up.
